Influential cancer research organization selects ACD/Labs to unify analytical data processing and chemical characterization
Toronto, CANADA (July 22, 2015)— ACD/Labs, a Toronto-based chemistry software company, announced today that the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) has installed ACD/Spectrus Processor in its research programs to simplify processing and analysis of chromatography, mass spectrometry, and NMR data.
At the ICR, more than forty medicinal chemists work within drug discovery programs towards the development of chemotherapeutic drug candidates, using analytical chemistry techniques to study and characterize novel chemical entities. Prior to this deployment, the ICR relied on a number of different software programs to manage its analytical data. With ACD/Spectrus Processor, that data is unified into one environment, which enables scientists to reach decisions faster, simplify data preparation for reporting and publication, and eliminate the burden of technical training and IT support.
“We provide our medicinal chemists with a dozen LC/MS, LC/UV, and NMR instruments from various vendors including Agilent, Bruker, Gilson, Thermo, and Waters,” said Dr. Amin Mirza, Head of Structural Chemistry at the Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit at the Institute of Cancer Research. “Using one tool to process and analyze all this data, instead of a suite of five or more, will certainly streamline the efforts of my group.”
ACD/Spectrus Processor is the foundation product of the ACD/Spectrus Platform, which delivers multi-technique, vendor-agnostic data processing and interpretation, reporting, and knowledge management into one uniform informatics environment.
“Our goal is to provide chemists with an all-in-one, multi-technique tool to streamline the processing, analysis and interpretation of spectroscopy, spectrometry, and chromatography data,” said Guy Desmarquets, VP Sales at ACD/Labs. “In time, we hope to expand on the capabilities of ICR’s project teams via the integration of the full ACD/Spectrus Platform.”

About The Institute of Cancer Research
The ICR is located in London, and specializes in oncology. Founded in 1909 as a department of the Royal Marsden Hospital, the ICR joined the University of London in 2003. It has been responsible for a number of breakthrough discoveries, including that the basic cause of cancer is damage to DNA. Together, the Royal Marsden Hospital and ICR form the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, ranked first amongst British higher education institutions in the Times Higher Education 2014 Research Excellence Framework Table of Excellence.
