Smooth Operator: Assisted NMR Analysis for the Bench Chemist
David Adams
Abstract
As many organizations in both industrial and academic institutions have made the shift from analytical support laboratories to open-access laboratories, the demand for desktop processing tools has increased significantly. NMR experiments are now run on a routine basis by synthetic chemists in this environment so it is of paramount importance that they have easy-to-use software that can help them quickly review their data, and make better, faster, more informed decisions. Coincidentally, many organizations are choosing to deploy electronic lab notebook (ELNs) as they strive towards a paperless environment. With this noticeable shift there is a need to handle all analytical data electronically and connect to the ELN workflow. However, it has been difficult to take the paper spectra out of the hands of the chemists.
In this talk, a new software package will be highlighted that provides chemists with overwhelming benefits to let go of their paper and embrace the electronic world fully. While the benefits of previous NMR desktop solutions were based on remote data access and reporting, they were limited in speed compared to the traditional paper workflow. ACD/1D NMR Assistant is based on a chemist workflow that is just as fast as paper review and provides the extra benefits of enhanced reporting, structure evaluation and validation, and electronic routing options.
