TABLE D-IV Trivial Names for Heterocyclic systems

The following list of structures and trivial names of heterocyclic systems is an extended version of the list contained in Rule B-2.11. For compounds which already appear in Rule B-2.11, only the names and numbers are given under which they are listed there. Rings are sited in increasing order of preference for selection as base compounds in fusion names, i.e. the ring which comes later in the list takes precedence. In two cases compounds (43) and (45), marked by an asterisk, this list updates the one in Rule B-2.11 with respect to the order of precedence.

Compounds (2), (3), (36) and (46) from B-2.11 have been omitted since they are not used as base compounds in fusion names. Except for names of the type phenothiazine the names given in the list should not be used as models for the coinage of new names. Replacement (Rule B-4), Hantzsch-Widman (Rule B-1) and fusion (Rule B-3) names are preferred.
